The CDEA CommissionThe Committee for Distance Education Accreditation Commission was established to improve the development of educational delivery systems and to promote ethical standards in distance learning programs. The Council carries out its mission through standard-setting, assessment and consultation processes. The CDEA Commission identifies and accredits online and distance education and training institutions that have attained and continue to maintain standards deemed necessary to operate at an acceptable level of quality. The Commission establishes ethical and business standards and examines and assesses online and distance education institutions in terms of those standards. CDEA accredits those institutes that qualify. The Council has incorporated the practices of recognized educational accrediting agencies into its policies and practices created specifically for international distance education institutes. Distance study institutions located outside the United States are eligible to apply for accreditation. The opportunity to apply for accreditation is open to private distance education institutions, both at the degree and non-degree levels.
